Seasonal H-2B workers in meat plants will be allowed extensions to their visas in a temporary ruling until May 2023. This mandate also includes those firms that transport and retail to consumers. Due to the recent pandemic-related labor shortages, the administration has declared meatpacking plants apart of the nation's critical infrastructure. Factories across the country have become a hotbed of infection and the government hopes to stave off closures and food shortages by extending work visas and allowing plants to rehire H-2B workers.
